children run away for as many reasons as there are children.
I have met children who ran away because they were not allowed to stay up late or go to a party with friends.
I have met children who ran away because they were beaten, tormented and teased.
I was accused of being a run away but the truth was I was thrown out of home and not allowed to return.

Many children run away because they are seeking attention and want to test their parents to see how much they care. However, in many cases this is a cry for help. Children have problems just like the rest of us. We as adults often tend to minimize their problems and therefore don't validate their feelings. For this reason some children feel unloved, unwanted or unappreciated and think somehow they can do better on their own. In other cases running away is a cry for help. Children who are abused and neglected may just need to get out of a bad situation and don't know how to use social resources to get help. Not to mention police, social workers, and other officials don't always remove abused children from the home. Usually if the child denies they are being abused, which they may do because they love the parent and don't want anything bad to happen to themselves, their parents, or siblings, and if investigations and home visits do not identify obvious abuse, then children remain in the abusive environment. Each case of running away should be investigated with caution and scrutiny to determine the true cause for the child running away and remedy the problem, because run-a-ways tend to run away repeatedly and by doing so they are at the mercy of people on the streets who may not have their best interest at heart.

because the misery and suffering on the streets is preferable to the hell at home. Maybe seeking help is just too risky and scary so running away seems the only option. However i think some children may feel the grass is greener on the other side.

Usually because of abuse.. physical, mental or sexual. A well reared child/teenager will very rarley leave the safety of it's home for the streets for no reason.
If its a much younger child it may be because of behavioural problems.... but beware... behavioural problems don't come from nowhere, they are usually the result of difficulties the child is/has experienced. This could be anything from bad parenting (the child is unruley because i has no boudaries), to the abuse mentioned above or bulling etc.

I did strategically run away from my home at some point of time, not because my parents are mean. I realise now that, some children are more intelligent to understand that home is not as natural as we perceive.

They feel frustrated or hopeless or picked on, and are unable to successfully communicate their frustrations and don't feel they are being listened to because they're not getting their way, were they have legitimate feelings they don't know how to deal with. Sometimes they're dealing with abuse issues. They also may fantasize about how their loss will affect their parents and picture that with their absence there will be great sadness. (This of course depends on the age of the child. With teenagers it's of course more complicated. What age are you talking about?

For various reasons, some for abuse, some feel misunderstood and not loved, some are mentally drained for different reasons, and etc. The list goes on, each case is different, but also sad:(

children!the very words spell-extremely emotional,restless,fun-loving, imaginative, careless, dreamers, enthusiastic, energetic and immature.having so may words to describe them makes them"handle with care and love"objects.for them there is nothing called fear.they live in the world of heroes-supermans and spidermans.we (the grown ups)and especially the parents have to live in their world and slowly bring them to reality.(instead of jolting them from their dream world).and if u are able to cope up with their dream world and reality u can avoid run-away kids.
