It is a pretty common, and standard thing.

I was taking birth control pills LONG before I ever had sex. I had severe PMS and the cramps were overwhelming. BC pills were the best thing to regulate.

My husband has had a vasectomry and I just recently started back on the pills due to severe PMS and irregular periods.

When I was 16, I was a leader for a boy's youth group at church. I was teaching one day and we're outside. My Dad rounds the corner in his car and stands up and waves my birth control pills out the window. Everyone sees. He screams "You forgot your medicine!". I about died. I went over to him, bless his heart, and said "Dad, do you realize what these pills are NORMALLY used for?"

I thought he was going to die of embarrassment..not only for me but for him.

I still laugh over that one.

Birth control pills are handed out like candy at Halloween these days, and often without the doctor mentioning the associated risks.

Many women who aren't sexually active are put on birth control to regulate their periods, if they are naturally irregular, or have a condition like PCOS, or heavy menstrual flow, or endometriosis. Women taking Acutane are required to be on birth control.

to control their period, on the pill they know what day they will get it, plus for less time, cramps aren't as bad, plus some girls take it to help with acne. My mom is 50 and has her tubes tied and shes been on the pill for years.

BCPs have so many benefits other than preventing pregnancy. They regulate menstration, help with acne, reduce the risk of cancers like uterine and ovarian, as well as the risk of ectopic pregnancies. They can also reduce anemia and cramps by creating a lighter flow. Plus, they can be good for your bones.

Some doctors start adolescent girls on birth control for acne, especially ortho tri-cyclen. Others start them due to painful cramping or irregular periods.

One reason could be to regulate her periods.
Sometimes your hormones can go crazy, and cause you to have more than 1 period each month, so a doctor will put you on the 'Pill", to get you regular again!
Good luck

There is a decreased risk of ovarian cycts, better looking skin and less acne, you can control your period and know what day it's coming on....also you can take 2 packs ina row and skip your period for that month! It's great!

It reduces cramps and gives you a shorter, lighter flow, and more predictable periods. You pretty much know what day you are going to start. I don't have cramps, no PMS'ing, its very very light and lasts about 4 days.
