I work at a printing company and there is this guy who is in charge of alot of the projects we do. This guy walks around all day acting like he runs the entire place. He walks fast and he is very demanding. He has little consideration for me and the work that I do. He gave me extra work to do that isn't even in my work qualifications....I am a graphic designer and he keeps making me do filing because he knows I hate it and it hurts my back when I have to bend down. What should I do about this guy? He is the next one down from my boss who is the Plant Manager. Who should I talk to? He is driving me crazy and making me feel horrible. FYI...he has done this to a few people.

everyone is supposed to do their own filing at my job...but now it seems that I am the one getting stuck doing it...and I am just a graphic designer...not a secretary!

Start looking for another job. I would strongly advise against going over his head, nothing but trouble will come from that. secodnly, dont ever say it's nto in my job qualifications, ever single job posting i have EVER seen has at the very end of the job duties description..."And other duties as necessary" This is put in for this exact reason. Once work becomes a dread to go to, it will do nothing but drag you down in and out of the office. Look for another job. But if it seriously hurts your back and he is aware of this and you have a physicians documentation on it, then sue the crap out of the and retire.

You say he has done this to a few people -- how did they deal with the situation? Did they leave the company? Have they said anything to anybody?
Does this guy have the authority to give you orders? If he is the next one down form the Boss, who are you suppose to take your work orders from?
Does the Boss know that this guy gives you irrelevant work to do? Does the extra work and filing interfere with your ability to get your regular assignments completed? Is there a person in the office who is suppose to do the filing? If so, why aren't they doing their job?
Can you get a note from your doctor stating that you should not do filing because of your back?
I suspect that the company you work for is pretty small. If there is a Human Resource Department, you may try talking to them.
If you really like what you do, and you are getting compensated well, you need to address the situation. If not, you may have to look for a new job.
I have worked with a lot of jerks and found that sometimes you just cannot change the situation and its time to move on.
Good Luck!

First thing is to document a peroid of time the things you are doing that is not your job if you feel you should not be doing this. You need several examples with dates and times. In the meantime, you need to confront him in public about the situation.See if you can work out the issues with him. If that does not work, then your next step is to take to his boss if your company has an open door policy. If they don't, you need to be careful of retributions.
One note of professional suggestion, I would never tell my boss or higher up it was not in my job description. Why? Because it makes you look like you are not a team player. You need to show everyone how much of a team player you are to gain their respect. If he is disrepecting you due to your sex, then you may have a sexual harrasement case against him.

Ask him which he would prefer that you do, the filing, or finishing the project that you are currently working on that is for a paying customer.
Do you have someone that is supposed to do the filing or does is everyone expected to pich in and so it?

Talk to him first. If that doesn't work, grab a few of your co-workers who feel the same way, and approach your boss about this guy.

Keep records of all the events (times, places, as much detail as you can get), and get the others he picks on to do the same. Once you have amassed evidence, take it to your boss and ask him to deal with it - that's what they pay him for.

You need to talk to HR. Have the rest of the affected people talk to HR also.
