I'm not much into music of the 50's and 60's music, but I know a thing or two about 70's music. Here are some good hits to listen to.

"Respect"
"Staying Alive"
"Love Train" (one of my favorites)
"Brown Eyed Girl"

There are so many genres of music for those time periods and too many great artists to just pick a few. I would suggest going online and find some streaming radio stations that play the oldies so that you can experience a wide variety of music.
to put my two cents in though ... I would suggest Buddy Holly songs, Beatles, and Abba.
Have fun and rock on!
