part of it is that its fashionable in a sense, like chav culture, I mean why anyone would want to wear those kind of clothes or stand in a bus shelter drinking cider is beyond me, but aparently it apeals to some people, and others do it to "fit in" with the gang.

as for the cutting, phsical pain tend to take your mind off emotional pain, I mean if someone kicks a guy in the groin I'm sure the last thing on his mind will be what grade he got on that last exam, of course I don't condone it but thats basicly why. some people also find they get some sense of control from it.

Emo (short for emotional) is a slang term used to describe a range of fashion styles and attitudes somewhat affiliated with emo music and its related scenes. The word "emo" may be used as a noun to describe a member of the emo scene, as an adjective to describe a certain style of fashion or music, or even to describe a state of feeling unhappiness, loneliness, depression or melancholy (to feel "emo").

People all have different ways of dealing with pain. "Emo kids" could just be going through that rebellious stae of life. For the cutting part, it could be a cry for attention or a way of dealing with pain, but not all "emos" cut.

not all are. don't judge every book the same just because they all have the same cover. It is not just "Emo" people that act that way there are many people from many different "set groups" (as you are doing putting people in groups) that do all of that stuff.
