It is best, as others have mentioned, to just let it go.

BUT, if you're dead set on keeping it, and no amount of coaxing or insistence is going to make you release it into the wild, I know that red-eared sliders eat mealworms, fruits, and lettuce. I imagine box turtles follow a similar diet. You should keep it in a spacious fishtank with sand and water and vegetation, if you can. A sunlamp suspended above the tank is a good idea, and after handling the turtle you must thorougly wash your hands. The tank should be claned several times a week, or else (as I learned the hard way) it will stink to high heaven.

Still, it is a wild animal and it's best for both of you if you just put it back in the wild and wish it luck. Wild animals carry all sorts of diseases, and your care could inadvertently kill it.

The best care you can give a wild animal is to allow it to stay wild and free. Use your camera and make some memory photos or images and allow the animal to go into its natural surroundings.

However, should you be driving around a see a turtle crossing a busy road, stop and help it cross safely if you can do so without endangering yourself.

You dont. You take it back to where you found it and put it in the same direction too, (turtles know which direction they're going and if you change it they'll get lost or hit by a car.) There are plenty of wild animal rescues you can take it to too in case it's hurt or something.

well some turtles you can put in a fish tank and fill with about 1/4 inch to 1/2 of water and put a large but not to large rock in and things to hide under or in and they like lettece or a pet store might have food for it.

It will probably like to eat bugs and worms. I have also found that most love bologna. Depending what kind of turtle it is you may need to give it a fairly wet environment.

don't keep it. it won't be good for the turtle. if you want to take care of it for like a day keep it in a big area that's shaded and give it some water and vegitables

If it's happy and healthy and a wild animal - leave it to live it's life. You can occasionally put lettuce or other food out for it for fun - but wild animals do better inthe wild. : )
