It is actually true. I was in the hospital when I was 35 weeks pregnant because of high blood pressure. When the nurse would take my blood pressure she always made me lay on my left side first rather than my back. The results were really high when I layed on my back compaired to my side. It does made a difference. Just dont lay on your back for long period of time, try to lay on your side as much as possible.

It is generally not recommended to sleep on your back when pregnant for some reasons (and these reasons are scientifically sound): the weight of the baby will be pressing on some of your vital organs, and the weight of the baby could also press on a major vein or a source of blood flow on your body, which would constrict or stop important blood flow to your baby. And if blood flow to your growing fetus is suppressed, there is a risk for birth defects and vital injuries to your unborn baby.
It is not a pregnancy myth. But it doesn't mean that you can never be on your back. It just means that you should not be on your back for a prolonged period of time (a long time such as overnight). Don't panic if you wake up in the middle of the night and you are on your back. Just go back to being on your side, and you and the baby will be fine.
Good luck!

I'm not sure if that myth is true or not but I do know that when I was pregnant with both of my girls there were times that I slept on my back and it felt great. They do say if you do not be active in your pregnancy that that your baby can stick to you and you'll have a hard birth(old wives tale). All in all just continue to pray and ask God for a healthy child.

When I was pregnant, I freaked out about this because I had heard the same thing. I would wake up and find myself on my back. My doctor said that if I'm comfortable enough to be sleeping, then its not going to do any damage. When you get uncomfortable, change positions. Congrats on your pregnancy, and good luck!

Partly true, partly myth. Sleeping on your back does cut off circulation, but it won't kill or permanently damage your baby that I'm aware of. I slept any which way I wanted until my second trimester when I started showing, then it became increasingly uncomfortable to sleep on my back. I could lie there for maybe 20 seconds, then I started feeling light headed and dizzy and just all around bad.

It has been medically proven to increase the blood flow to the baby and be healthier for the baby for a pregnant woman to sleep on her LEFT SIDE. So, I will assume that that research was done against other sleeping positions including on the back.

I slept on my back for almost all my pregnancy and I have a really healthy baby :) If you do have a lot a nausea, and pressure on your stomach, it is better to sleep on your left side, so your fluid will go down easely, but I really don't think it has anything to do with your baby's health :) have a nice day :)

I would ask your nurse...I personally sleep on my back..but when I was pregnant I had a very hard time sleeping on my side....it worth it though if you are worried about it like I was....I figure its only for a short time. Also, I would ask the nurse or doctor if it matters what trimester.
