I've got mixed emotions about the two. I love some of the older American cartoons, and some of the newer ones seem to be getting more and more like Anime. But when I want to watch for artistic pleasure, give me Vampire Hunter D. I've never really seen american cartoons that use watercolors the way that movie has them. And I think it's hilarious to see how Anime is beginning to use american words or expressions.
I love Anime for it's artistic value, and for the fact that anime doesn't limit cartoons to a child's ages. If there were more American cartoons like that, I would be a big fan. But you can't forget classics like Scooby Doo, Secret Squirrel, Dick Dastardly, Bugs Bunny, and those guys.
My little girl is a year old, and her favorite channel is Boomerang, the Cartoon Network channel of older cartoons. But she watches Anime with me... and she loves Hellsing. I laughed so hard at her clapping for Alucard and Walter.

What does it matter? They are all animated in Korea by large companies that employ a massive amount of people. Japan and America only draw a few key frames and send it off to be completed.
Besides, they aren't the only kinds of animation out there.
C'mon People, Asterix and Obelix? That's french. The Smurfs were originally french. 90% of what people think is American is actually Japanese anime.
This is not a big fight, even Korea, Vietnam, and China are starting semi popular animation cultures. They are all just styles, Don't argue about it, it won't tear the fabric of the world if it exists.
Just be happy that there is something out there for everyone.
Personally I'm an anime fan, but I enjoy the animation art form over all, whether it's Claymation (Davey and Goliath, Wallace and Grommit, or Robot Chicken.) or cell/computer animation.
They are all great, the only thing I cant get into is anything with robots. American, Japanese, it could be martian, I just don't have any love for the bots.

I love Japanese anime. Much of them actually have meaning to them, while most of these american cartoons are shallow. And I have to say how much I admire japenese art, it's so beautiful(take hayao miyazaki movies for example " WHISPER OF THE HEART" the art is absolutely gorgeous). Most american cartoons have such ugly art. The only american cartoons i prefer is that from DC/ Marvel whatever. I also like X-men Evolution. The art was nice there. Wait a minute, even though it's "american", it is Koreans who do the art, the same story goes with the simpsons.
The truth has to be said... Japanese anime rocks
PS i born, raised, and stil live in America. But this being America, you get to taste the many different cultures out there.

Anime is so much better! it has so much more depth then american carttons! American cartoons are all comedy. Anime has a variety of genres like romance, drama, action, sci-fi, comedy basically all genres. The graphics are so much better! i mean look at all the detail. It's a pian to draw but fun! I love to draw anime people! The music rocks too! The characters are so realistic that u like fall in love with them! and i'm not american or japanese! well i'm technically american cuz i was born here...

I personally like anime a lot better. The art of it seems less lazy than American art, like it's more sophisticated. I wish I could draw like that! I really love it, and it IS a lot better than American. And I'm American too! lol this might not be a fair question; I really like Japanese culture! well, have a nice day! :)

Same here i like anime more than most american cartoons. But thats probablt because quite a few of them come from books and comics and in order to make you use your imangination it has to be writen well. So when they make it in to a anime they usually have a good story line.

I watch american and japnese, they both lack something. Not all anime is funny and sometimes too hard to understand. However american cartoons are sometimes funny and not hard to understand. Also some american cartoons are pointless and stupid. But anime has better details and emotions that american animation lacks.
