It depends how you define a pound of something and if you're weiging them in a vacuum.
The instinct is to answer "they both weigh a pound, thus they weight the same amount" if not weighed in a vacuum, the pound of feathers actually includes a portion of weight that is trapped air, whereas the gold does not. Thus in a measured pound of feathers there is less than an actual pound of feathers and an actual pound of feathers will weigh slightly more than a pound.
Weighing both substances in a vacuum with eliminate this measurement error and they will weigh the same amount.

The pound of feathers will feel somewhat heavier if it is in a sack or something because it will not be stiff, and will roll. Therefore, it will be hard to handle.
Also, the pound of gold, will quickly feel weightless in your hand, because I will have taken it, and be a good 100 meters away before you realize what happened!

with any precious metal (diamond, gold, silver etc) the pound is measured as 12ounces wheras a normal pound is 16ounces so therfore the pound of feathers will be heavier.

I believe the answer is gold because gold is measured in avoirdupois weight and in that measurement, a pound weighs more.

Wow, I haven't seen this question in days.
I'm wondering when I'll see the "Could I be pregnant..." question soon.
