The life lesson to learn to define between who is a true friend and who is just a friendly acquaintance is a hard one and can be a costly one in many ways to learn.
A friend will risk your friendship to tell you when you need to pull your head out of your ***.
A friend will freely give you feedback on your choices (beliefs, attitudes and behaviors) in life, but will not never confuse you with those choices.
A friend will support you regardless of the choices you make in life..... they may if you are making some bad choices keep some distance and support you from the far distance.
A friend will not make a judgment on anything they hear until they have given you .. your say in the matter.
A true friend is someone who will be watching your back when the **** hits the fan.
I believe that if at the end of your life you can look back and count on one hand the number of true friends you have been blessed with you are a lucky man.
This does not mean you can not enjoy the company and companionship's of the thousands of friendly acquaintances life offers. Just know they will not be there when it truly counts.
Trust is not all or nothing .... we have to give a little ....BUT then it has to be earned if it is not .. do not give anymore. ~ Rudy

Make up some juicy gossip about yourself and tell each person you think is your friend a different fake piece of gossip. Log what you told them carefully and then ask the others in a day or two if they have heard any rumors about you. If you hear some of the stories you told the other "friends" then you can check them off your friends list.

Most people do not know who is actually a friend or not until something happens. A friend of mine was in a bad motorcycle accident. People he thought were friends didnt come to visit while he was in the hospital. Until they cross you or you need something..you never really know.

A friend is the one you can talk to, trust, who you will be there for, who will be there for you, who you can be yourself with and not worry about anything, who has your best intrests at heart. I suppose thats more like a best friend
a friend would be someone who is nice to your face, and behind you back.

You have to trust the other person until they give you reason not to trust them.
If they treat you like you treat them. That goes back to the age old statement "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you!"
If they are there for you when you need them, but you also have to be there for them when they need you.
Do you enjoy being around them, do they enjoy being around you?
And last but not least, Do not let anyone stab you in the back more than once. First time is there fault, Second time is your fault for letting it happen again.
Hope this helps!

In my experience, you never know who your friends are. Thats Why I keep everyone at a distance. Except for my parents and my husband. I know that I can always trust them.

Wait for Christmas. The ones who give you presents are your friends. And stalkers.

Here are a few MAJOR hints....
a real friend:
after a bad fight, calls YOU
Tells you their deepest secrets
loves you just the way you are
doesn't pressure you to be perfect or to do things you don't want to do.
Now, I realize that nobody is that perfect.... but a real friend comes pretty darn close! =)

This is simple. All friends fit in one of these catagories:
Friends are.
for a reason,
for a season,
or a lifetime!!
