I wanted to buy one, and a friend of mine says she hates hers. She sometimes has to run a load through twice to get the clothes clean.

I'm an appliance Doctor. I own my own repair shop.. Stay away from the front loader. Teressa, Kenmore is whirlpool. They are the best machines made. I work on washers everyday. Dryers too. Refrigerators also. Dishwashers too. Trust me.. Buy a "direct drive top loading whirlpool, roper, Kenmore magic chief, they are all make the same.

I have a Kenmore front loader and like it. THe clothes are clean - my only small complaint would be that a load takes a pretty long time to go throug the cycle
My advise is to stay FAR AWAY from Whirlpool!

Front loaders do not wash as much clothing as other type of washer and they take much less soap. tell you rfriend that she is loading too much into the washer and adding too much soap, that's why they don't come clean. The drum goes very easy on them too if they are overloaded. Ours went twice while we were still under warranty.

That's what I heard about front loaders, also. They are very gentle on your clothing because there isn't an agitator, like the regular ones. I would stick with the tried and true agitating machines.

i haven't made a trial-and-error comparison.
but one reason i don't like front-loading is you can't stop the washer at any time.
lift the lid on a top-loading and baddah boom, it stops and doesn't spill water everywhere
