There's a group of 7-10 of us wanting to fly from California via Seattle or Portland to Russia. We would prefer to fly through Seoul or Tokyo then up to Petropavlovsk, Kamchatka. It seems to be very difficult to get airline flights together for this trip. Help?

Petropavlovsk has no regular international flights (other than ex-USSR). Unless you manage to find info about a charter flight (Did you try to charter a jet from Air Alaska or some other company?), your options on Russian Far East are Vladivostok and Khabarovsk (not as attractive as Vladivostok). So you can fly from Seattle via LAX via Seoul to Vladivostok and then from Vladivostok to Petropavlovsk.

Seattle - Seoul - Vladivostok will cost you about $ 1800 - $ $ 2000 per person.

Korean Airlines'll fly you to Vladivostok via Seoul. Prices change over time, you may find JAL via Tokyo'll be cheaper but I doubt it. From Vladivostok you can then fly onto Petropavlovsk with Siberian airlines or Vladivostok Air. You won't be able to directly go via Seoul or Tokyo.
Vladivostok airport is a fair distance to the north of the city and it takes a while to get in there due to the bad traffic. You'll probably need to spend the night to recover from the flight, maybe more as getting a flight out to Kamchatka is always troublesome.
There are options other than Vladivostok but these will be by far more difficult to arrange.

You will have to fly out of LAX as Seattle has no direct flights to Russia any more. Finding an airline into Tokyo or Seooul is no problem. As I look at it, your only option is to fly into Moscow and connect to Petropavlosk. There is only one flight out of Moscow into Petropavlosk with no routes out of Japan or Seoul directly. JAL or Air Korea can fly into Moscow. There are no direct flights from anywhere in Russia except through Moscow.

I would try a travel agent to try to book the best series of flights and if all else fails contact the Russian Consulate in the United States with help in your travel plans. You may need to contact them anyway for the proper Visa's for entry into Russia.
