If you have an excessive amount of glue residue.Use a product from Aquamix (sold at Home Depot) Called "Sealer and Adhesive Remover". Otherwise, using a "laxtex modified thinset" to install the new tile with is recommended as this type of thinset will adhere to wood or any other substrate ie" painted concrete, glue residue etc.
Hope this info was useful and good luck with your new installation.

Safety first blades are razor sharp and toxics burn up brain cells. Use a 4" wall scraper. Might have to change blades often. A hand stone grinder, its a block stone with a handle. You can try H2O, pour a1/2 gal on floor let it sit about 5 min or so. If that does not work. Try solvent and use a mask and ventilate room to outside. If it stuck well just even out surface. Sqaure it, snap lines ( spray hair spray on lines, like a sealer ) and add acrylic to thin set for a strong bond. Save brain cells when using toxics. Wear a good mask. Caution with razor sharp blades

usually people use a large scraper to scrape it up. Its a pole about the size of a broomstick, with a large blade at the bottom.
If its a small area, and you want to use a solvent, laquer thinner, and a scrub brush will work. But the odor of it is extremely bad. Make sure you use gloves and have good ventilation. A charcoal mask should be used also.

Any type of cleaner may help... I know brake fluid works wonders.. wear gloves though it is a corrosive.. or you can go by "Goo Gone" this also works.. If you can get your hands on MEK... Methel Ethel Keytone... See your local crack dealer.. That will do the job for sure... good luck.

Scrape it or worst case rent a circular sander.
