Firstly do not go to a modeling agency without a portfolio as they will want you to get one and these can be very expensive, you best bet is to get a friend to take a lot of photos of you with a digital camera (in different clothes and backgrounds) and then select a 10-20 really nice photos and create a digital portfolio which you can put this on line and just have business cards with the link on, a lot cheaper than having them printed. examples of work can be provided on request. just message me here if you want, i am a professional website designer but have lots of free time (and enough money) so i am currently doing free sites for small bands, small artist etc, basically anyone who could not afford them otherwise.

Do some research, and find out where the local offices of some reputable modeling agencies are, and go introduce yourself. Tell the agent that you are interested in modeling and they will tell you if they are interested. If anyone asks for money up front...get up and move on, this is not a reputable agent. Expect to pay for photography and most likely a make-over (hair, make-up, etc)

Start building your portfolio. Contact a photographer (maybe one that is just starting out and trade time for prints) and get your pictures taken. Write letters and send pictures to local talent agencies. Good luck, its a tough market.
