I could not possibly choose a fav. song-I love them all!
Jim was called the Lizard King for: In his poem "The celebration of the Lizard" there's a verse "I am the Lizard King./I can do anything." You've probably heard this verse in the song "Not to touch the earth" which actually is part of this poem although this particular verse appears later on the poem. The whole poem was to be recorded as it was,but since it was too long they choze the "Not to touch the earth" part and Jim added the "Lizard King" verse. Because of the fact that Jim dressed mostly in leather, people related that to the verse and thought he dressed like a lizard and wanted to be called a king. That, however, was a misconception. Those who knew that Jim was much interested in shamanism and even believed he was a shaman himself, gave a different explanation to the "Lizard King"(the real one).Often shamans were assisted by guardian spirits known as power animals.Among them was the lizard.
The film was horrible, full of bullshit! Val Kilmer, however, was brilliant.
I can tell u as many stories as u want to know! I have countless books about the Doors,by the Doors,Jim's poetry, all the stories behind every song,DVD's,all their albums..u name it!
Jim has already said it! In an interview, aired on PBS in 1969(the Doors' last televised appearance) Jim was asked what he thought the music scene would be like in the future. He made a prediction that turned out to be 100% right!!
P.S: For additional information about the Doors or Jim in particular, please do contact me.I'd be happy to help you!

Hell yes. The Doors are great. The End is probably their best song - simple and melodic, haunting, just like their careers. Jim Morrison was kind of a freak, but made some good music in his time. Never saw the film, and I'm not that big of a fanboy to know any stories, sorry.
I think if Morrison were alive now he would've prayed at the alter of Nirvana and Pearl Jam - those bands picked up a dormant thread in music that the Doors helped to define - alienation and loneliness.

love the doors-lots of fave songs by them but my own is the end or riders on the storm-both of them were ahead of their time as were the band and especially morrison.he was really the first truly sexy front man of a band and his early photo shoots of him bare-chested were really something quite daring for back in those days
i think he got the name the lizard king from some poetry that he wrote or someone else did-not quite sure on that one.
the film was ok and val kilmer played a good part and thought he really looked like morrison in the early parts
if you want good stories about jim and the boys you must read"no-one here gets out alive"by danny sugerman-it tells the warts and all story of the doors in great detail from jims early life right thru to the end of his life-fascinating stuff with plenty of cool rock n roll stories
if jim came around now with the same good looks and attitude that he displayed in the 60s he would be an overnight sensation-he would shake up the music scene big style and hopefully wake up a lot of sleeping kids who dont really know a real rock n roll thrill-as they are fed a diet of sanitised rubbish these days-i do feel though that the end would be the same for him because like a lot of others(cobain, hendrix etc)he was destined to burn like a rocket and then fade to blackness-not slowly fizzle out-the man and the band were true legends and its great to hear somebody still loves the band as much as i do!!

Five to one baby!
Listen to The Celebration of the Lizard King when Jim says "I am the Lizard King. I can do anything".
Movies was cool.
Jim would hate the music of today - not deep enough.

Gloria!!!!! A great song. It featured on that old brat pack film call 'the outsiders'. He would probably hate most of the current pop music but there's still loads of good stuff about if you delve a little deeper - and I'm sure he would have.

Not really into The Doors but I once watched a really interesting documentary on Jim in English, Irish and French. That doesn't really answer your question, does it?!
