I was the controller for compny that was run by a friend of mine. Out of no where , he has has "laid"me off with absolutely no explanation. I was doing a wonderful job, but..... He then had the audacity to say,"I hope we can still be friends."

I would ask him face to face why you were let go. You have every right to know.

Find out why you were laid off. If the person is really your friend he will be honest with you because if it is something you did you nee to know so you won't repeat the mistake. In fact if he was really such a good friend he should have explained the reason to you at the time he was laing you off.

But I guess it won't hurt to ask and be clear.

Well, you can always go back to him and ask him why he laid you off. If his answer is sincere than you can decide whether or not to remain friends. Remember he laid you off he can always bring you back. What you need to ask yourself is, where you working to the company's expectations? I hope everything works out for you. Good luck w/ this.

No you probably won't remain friends...and you probably don't want to! Unfortunately you might want to use him as a reference so it's best to play the game...
