Because they are insecure about themselves, because they were brought up to think they are more important than others (intentionally or not) and/or because they want all the attention...just to name a few of the possible reasons :)

I think it all has to do with having low self-esteem. People that have low self-esteem normally brag to make themselves look better. They're also good at putting others down to make themselves feel better. Great Question!!

because truthfully they are insecure about themselves, so they act like jerks and like they're hot stuff to in a sense make themselves feel better.
