If something exists, and nothing exists, what is it that does not exist? Is nothing something that doesn't exist? or is nothing the absence of something/ existence.

'Nothing' is the absence of existence. It is impossible to apprehend any absolute and therefore difficult for a mind to grasp the absolute nature of non-existence. With this line of argument it is probable that the logical conclusion would be that non-existence in it's absolute nature does not exist. There is no absence of existence (see Descartes proof) and therefore absence of existence is not a logical reality.

"Nothing" in the way that you are asking, does not exist. We can not physically make nothing, as we could physically make something, say a chair. We can only make nothing by removing everything, which theoretically you could do with a vacume, I suppose. We have whole lists of these words which do not exist, in the sense that other things exists, they are the lack of existing things. Dark and cold are two other common, but less debated, examples. We can not make dark, only block out all light. We can not make cold, only remove all heat. (Even your refigerator can't produce cold, it only removes the heat from the compartments.) So, in nothing you would find cold and dark, because they are not something, only the lack of something, and if you are not something, then you are nothing.

I think of the nothing as a concept or the framework in which the somethings interplay or create. As a concept I'd describe the void of emotion in some poor souls as a nothing or empty vessel. I would hazard that nothing does not exist, it is the lack of something that allows the concept to be entertained. Interesting thought, thank you.

"God came from nowhere riding on nothing",said the old testiment. He created the heavens from nothing, and calls things still into existence from nothing. Nothing now is very hard to find because there is so much creation taking up the space nothing used to occupy. and, since nothing doesn't resist being taken over, every time something shows up it spreads outward till all the nothing in that area is overrun by so many somethings that you just can't find nothing, but that doesn't mean that it isn't still there.. it is just hidden behind all that something... If you be verry very quiet and very still, you can still find it ,, sometimes.

Everything must have an opposite. Something exists. So Nothing must exist.

Nothing cannot exist because it is nothing . there has to be something to exist ,so if there is nothing there is no existence.
good question?

nothing can exist because all nothing is, is the lack of something. think of an atom, where there are protons, neutrons, and electrons; you have your nucleus made of your protons and neutrons, and your electrons orbiting that. whats in between the nucleus and your electrons? today's belief is: nothing. as far as scientific knowledge goes today, nothing, or the lack of something can exist. but there is always room for error in this field. nothing is only a very widely supported theory, there may or may not be something inside of nothing.

it cannot that is its definition, the absence of something existing there, it is not a concept of equal value to something. For something can exist in its own right, whereas "nothing" presupposes the concept of something, ie. you can say i have nothing in my pocket, but that presupposes the possibility that something could have been there: money, cellphone, lint, etc. This also holds true with the concept zero, it cannot exist on its own it is the absence of a quantity of something.

never has and never will!
There must have been "something" since the beginning of time-in order for nothing to exist-therfore nothing was/is non existent....
