My sis had a baby about 7 months ago, and was breastfeeding (which also meant she was without her period). She became pregnant when her baby was about 8 weeks old but experienced no symptoms. The breastfeeding didn't work out (probably because of hormone changes or whatever- the baby just stopped taking her nipple), so eventually after not having a period after ceasing breastfeeding she took a pg test and she's pregnant.... and according to ultrasound she's nearly 13 weeks pregnant...
So, our concern is the binges she had during her first trimester... probably about 7-10 drinks in a one night outing, 4 or 5 different nights... any information or similar situations out there???

I SAID she stopped breastfeeding! She didn't drink AND breastfeed... sheesh.... The one time she did she pumped.... I tried making it clear. No breastfeeding and drinking simultanously!

i got drunk the night our daughter was concieved and a couple of nights later on that week the first week of my pregnancy. After I found out I was pregnant ( which was actually the next week, I had one of those blood tests done at the hospital for pregnancy or whatever) anyway long story short I felt terrible and worried til I got my first ultrasound and even until she was born that something I had done had caused her to have some sort of defect... Fortunately she came out just fine and is one of the smartest and funniest four year olds I have ever known... shes perfectly normal in every way.. it wouldnt be her fault if she didnt know she was pregnant again but she shouldnt be drinking when she is breastfeeding as it passes through her milk just like food will and may hurt the baby...not judging or anything... If you think something could be wrong with the baby then she may want to let her doctor know her concerns... she doesnt have to tell the doctor everything just that she wants some tests ran..

I had a drink before I knew I was pregnant with my daughter but it was one drink and only once so it's not the same situation. From your question I got the impression that the reason she drank alcohol without knowing she was pregnant was because she was breastfeeding. Was she drinking while breastfeeding? Maybe I misunderstood. If so that is not a good idea. As far as problems it may cause with the baby she is now carrying, I don't think there is anyway to know. I have known women who have gotten drunk, not knowing they were pregnant but stopped drinking when they found out and the babies were perfectly healthy. Still, I would tell her to talk to her doctor about her concerns. The doctor would be able to tell her what the risks may be that the alcohol has affected the baby.

I just had a baby 7 months ago too. When I found out I was pregnant I was already 3 months along I had no symptoms and still had my period.I had been bartending and drinking a lot and I was very worried. My Dr. told me it was okay as long as I stopped and took my prenatal vitamins. My daughter is totally fine.I read a lot on drinking while pregnant and women in France and Italy are more open to it there(in moderation like 1-2 drinks a week) and their babies are fine.My daughter is great and I'm sure her baby will be fine too.Good luck!!

deltaqueen - the odds of WHAT are 50/50? you should not instill panic in people without a real reason.
And this is NOT a question to be answered on Yahoo - go talk to a physician and a psychologist. If somebody with a newborn goes on binges (while still breastfeeding), there are some issues that need to be looked into.
To ease first anxiety - no reason to panic - just an issue to address.

i became a wide potential drink junkie earlier i became pregnant, too. incredibly Monsters. i'd say the possibility became the most perfect contained in the first trimester (that you're patently out of by now, being 5 months pregnant). the possibility is that potential beverages can strengthen the babys heartrate to being too severe and reason a miscarriage. At this aspect, purely make a doctor's appointment and be certain each little thing is fantastic. and end ingesting those potential beverages!

With Alcoholic Fetus Syndrome they really can't tell how much Alcohol makes a difference and it varies person to person. Some cultures like small parts of Ireland- still drink while being pregnant. You have to remember that in 1950 beer was consider food and many women drank and smoke during their whole pregnancy. Her baby is most likely fine.
I will have to say that her breast milk with probably full of alcohol which is why the baby refused to breast feed. You shouldn't drink while breast feeding, I am mean a small glass of wine is fine but binge drinking?
My grandmother drank wine and beer through her whole pregancy with my mother and my mother was fine.

She and new baby should be fine. My cousin was 5 months before she found out and her baby was perfectly healthy. Just tell her not to be drinking while breastfeeding next time.

I drank a whole bottle of wine to myself when I didn't know I was pregnant with my 3rd child. After I found out I was pregnant, I told the doctor about that bottle of wine I had. The Doc said that it would be okay, as long as I don't drink no more. My son is now almost 5, he's fine.

wow! well, it was definitely not good for the baby! but........ if she completely stoped everything right away and continues with a healthy, smoke and alchohol FREE pregnancy......then that baby will still have time to grow and gain all health back over the months to be a normal healthy child. There are cases where the child is too young in the first trimester.. and can't handle it so... the baby dies. -but your sis seems like her babe will be fine.
