Not a racist by far, but why does it seem like caucasians are trying to take over EVERYTHING. Jeez can't we even have the word African American???

This is not my opinion. I asked the question b/c it was on a blog that I saw. Can't we have anything that identifies just US? I am not racist at all BUT I do think that blacks can't have anything without caucasians trying to take it over. ONCE AGAIN, I AM NOT RACIST. PART OF MY RACE IS WHITE SO HOW CAN I BE? So the lame, ignorant comments.....save it.

That person would be considered Caucasian. Race is not solely based on where you come from.
Just b/c you're from Africa and come to America, it does not automatically make you African-American. African-Americans are AMERICANS whose ancestors came from Africa on slave ships. Most of the Caucasians from South Africa have European roots.

Do you know anything about the history of South Africa? A bunch of white people (caucasians if you will), most likely missionaries at first, came to South Africa to teach the blacks a "better" way of life. However, soon (over hundreds of years) the whites, although they comprised a very small percentage of the population, split all the blacks into castes - similar to what we had here in America in New Orleans - octaroons, etc. -. Nelson Mandela was put into prison because he fought for freedom and equality for all the black people of South Africa. So, the whites are caucasians, not African-Americans. In fact, when I was in high school, we had two whites South African kids move to our school, because their parents couldn't stand to live in such a racist society. To this day, South Africa has still not come as far as it should, but it is much, much better than it was.

Good question. I really hate these "politically correct" titles that we have given everyone. Why must we insist on labeling people? In an effort to not offend "black" people, we created the term "African American." But in doing this, we assume that all black people come from Africa and that white people are not African and in turn have offended a whole new set of people.
Anyway, to answer your question, just call them a person. It is rarely relevant to include where a person is from every time we talk about this person or introduce them.

why would anyone call a person born, raised and living in Africa, American?, the white people who immigrated to South Africa are called Afrikaners, and speak a dutch language called Afrikaans, African Americans are black people living in America, and refers to nationality, Caucasian refers to race, like Mongoloid, or *******, Caucasian is a wide group of people, including all Europeans, the Middle East and North Africans

Well, I think that person would not, the term African American does not mean just being born in South Africa.

If they are from Africa they are an African. If they move to America then they are American. Being African or American has nothing to do with color or it shouldn't. Oh and you are racist you have shown that just by asking this question.

Thats true and they Are actually called African American. I 've been encouraged to use the word, BLACK when it comes to my Race. Soon people will find a way to try to take that from us. Now I sound like "Ask a Black dude on Dave Chappelle."

That person would be south african because they were born there. Unlike the african american who was removed from his native land. The south african came voluntary and came here voluntarily and would keep his nationality.

Rev. Jesse Peterson who is Black said "I am not an African-American, I am an American."
Now if someone actualyl was born in Africa and they became an American citizen they would be African-American regardless of Skin Color.
Whites born in Africa do in fact call themselves African.
