I live in Raleigh, NC. Bone up on the questions related to alcohol consumption and how long it takes to get out of your system. Also study the questions regarding chool Busses.

Know how to park and read the book thoroughly because they throw random questions out on that permit test. The driving part is pretty easy if you've been practicing amd make sure the car you take it in is the one that you've practiced in or am comfortable with. Definitely stop before the white line at all stoplights and stop signs, use your signals always (especially when parking), put your seatbelt on immediayely, use two hands at all times, check mirrors frequrntly, and never take your eyes off the road. Again the only real challenging part is the parellel parking. Go to the site and see where they will have you park and just practice there after hours or something. Also make it easy on yourself and take the test in a small car and not a huge SUV or truck. The smaller the car, the easier you wil be able to park!

know spped limits on certain roads, which lanes have to stop for a parked bus (if its 2 lane road or 4) just read your book. If you have anything from drivers ed read that too. I failed it the first time passed the 2nd. The driving part is a piece of cake as long as you stop completely at the sign and then inch up if you still can;t see and go the corect speed limit expecialy arround the sharp curve where they have the slow down signs
I live in nc too. you'll do fine

Also if you live in wilmington or hampsted you don't have to parallel park not sure about the rest of the state

The questions vary from test to test. Just study the book as well as you can. Have some one quiz you on differnent parts of the book. I dont think there are any short cuts other than knowledge.

As far as the Road test.. make sure you are very observeant and check all your mirrors frequently. Always come to a complete stop at a stop sign or light.

STUDY THE ROAD SIGNS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you will have to identify them they take the words of some of them and you need to know what they are, also when taking the actual driving test, know the vehicle you use because they will ask you to do various things like when i took mine i had to put on the e brake and hazard lights and defrost and TRY TO KNOW HOW TO Parallel park!

also don't just DO WHAT THEY SAY, like if they say to stop and back up in the middle of the road, do so but STOP AND GO FORWARD AS SOON AS YOU SEE A VEHICLE IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR coming TOWARDS YOU

good luck, it is not that hard WEAR YOUR SEAT BELT!

make sure you tell the instructor to put his /her seatbelt on they like to see that you take everybody's safety into account, don't make wide turns into oncoming traffic and watch your speed don't go over any posted limit that's a no-no and always check your mirrors they will look to see if you are looking around. when you parallel park make sure you don't get too close to the curb and don't hit the car in front or behind when parking even if it is a little bump they frown on that.......Good Luck and Happy Motoring

Go to the testing station and loosely follow some of the testing drivers around the course. That way you will know what they are doing.
