Is the world really a better place for kids? How come?Aren´t more and more of them forced to grow up, coerced to leading an adult life?Parents these days put more strain on children than in the past, they may be given more opportunities, but aren´t they just the nice side of the deal which means growing old?

Well, the world is a lot more competitive than it used to be in our parent's day so parents may feel that the earlier the child develops the better prepared they will be.

Other times kids are forced to grow up because their parents decide to emotionally bail on the kids or actually leave them or are too career oriented to give them their childhood. Some children end up raising their siblings because the parent isn't being a parent. It really depends on the situation.

Also, kids put it on themselves. They want to fit in so they try to do what the older kids are doing. Sometimes the world expects them to so they do. Plus kids are smarter nowadays so it's natural for them to seem more grown up. If you're a parent or become a parent you can make the choice of giving them that childhood or not.

From someone who has been on both sides. I was a kid, then I was a kid and a parent at the same time and now I am a grown up parent. Anyway, in my opinion, there are some people that do not know how to treat kids. Some of us parent the way we were parented, which is, in some cases, a disaster that leads to a lot of problems, i.e single mothers, dead beat dads, teenage mothers, etc. As a sinfle mother, I have to admit that a lot of pressurer has been put on my oldest child to help out with the other two and that is also what my mom did. When I was younger, I thought that it was unfair but now I realized that even though it was unfair, my mom did the best she could and not ony that but she taught me to be responsible and independent, that is what I am teaching my children and the older my other two kids get, the more responsibility is taken from the older one and spread out among the three.

every kid has to grow up somtime, and yet if they grow up too fast and you take away their child hood, then that will scare them and leave an emptiness that they will never know. i think that the only reasons that parents stress kids, because they need help and that the load they carry is too heavy. rather it be a single parent that is fusterated with too much responsiblilty with grow a child, parents in financial problems, poverty or anyother way, it affects their children, because they lean upon their child, and that is the wrong thing to do. also, rather it be for they have their child read and study for a better future, that is far wrong too. but, we can not do anything, but give our own children their fun, and help otherr kids too. its the best we've got, and i think its a little better nowadays, because, the kids are grown into a world with more equality then back in the days...hope ny oppinion helped you...

Define "allowed to be kids". I think parents put LESS strain on children- they no longer discipline them, they give them pretty much any stupid toy they want, they buy them "cool clothes", they go out to restaurants.....

There's a constant need to ENTERTAIN children now- screw that. When i was a kid- it was....ok, go out and play. THAT was entertainment- not these dumb Xboxes and TV.

Kids now don't DESERVE to "be kids". They are spoiled and whiny and obnoxious, and many of them are fat....of course, most of this is due to their parents.

Mine are. I push mine out the door regularly to go play outside. We monitor everything that they watch on television and even check the parent reviews of movies in the theaters before going to see any of them. It's an effort, but well worth it.

Parents aren't allowed to let their kids be kids now. Too many people, family, gov, getting into the parents place. That's why it's like it is.

somehow...their inner child gets locked up and pushed away...I am in my late twenties and I still wonder what it feels like to be an adult...asking my mother...she wonders the same thing...so in that sense..I believe it is all up to the parent who is raising the child..I was raised by a kid at heart...and there for I have become just that...thank you mama...
