This is actually kind of funny. They did the same thing to us in Karbala last year... AFTER it became evident that the base there was going away, the local s**t disturbers started yelling VERY LOUDLY that the "U.S. MUST GO"!!!... then these same people would stand on the rooftops yelling about how THEY were responsible for running off the Americans.

Anyone who watches the news (Fox or CNN) can see that we are reducing our presence as we planned on doing all along and slowly replacing our troops (and coalition troops) with Iraqis... as it should be. Now you have the enemy offering "an olive branch" of sorts "IF" we leave in 2 yrs.... the world can plainly see we will have withdrawn the majority of our troops in that period of time.

I'm not convinced anything good will come of it this time around, but at least they are starting to realize that stopping the violence may speed up our exit from Iraq faster than their current course of action.

THe bad guys are on the run. They can't beat us ( we are beating ourselves with this cut & run crap). The Iraqi forces are geting stronger and our intel is able to break up there cells better than before. Most important is the Bad guys lack the support of the people. The Insurgents offer no political or economic change. Just death to anybody the can kidnap or bomb. If we keep up efforts to "win hearts & minds" rather than see storys about Marines Murdering folks; then the new Govermant can prevail. The enemy has a finite supply of men & arms. Thats why they use IED's. In a straight up gunfight they get creamed. Close the borders, reduce unemployment( idle hands turn into insurgents), reduce the troop visability as the Brits do and thus puts a iraqi face on the operation. Do this, and the troops can come home & all will be happy.

I think the Iraqi insurgents offer to stop the attacks is bogus. This isn't the first time this has happened. So I predict that if we pull out 2 years from now, they're going to start to wreck chaos and claim that we left because of their efforts. However, as our troop presence in Iraq begin to lower gradually, they still claim "victory" for "getting us out of there" and continue attacks. No one can really believe what the insurgents say because they're going to twist any news to their favor and make false claims of the so-called achievements they have done.

Take a peak at the latest appropriations bill for the Iraq war...those little earmarks for permanent bases are still there. We aren't going anywhere.

it is the Islamic way to ask for a truce only to restrengthen their forces. Once they rearm then its back to warfare...

They have been doing this for a thousand years...
