theres many ways to access monologues.. but for variety, search for plays you dont know based on their topics or authors that you enjoy. pull monologues from less recognized sources and you'll increase your standing in an audition. when you use repeat monologues directors have heard over an over youd better be OUTSTANDING at them or they tend to just glaze over from repetition.

The problem with monologue websites and books is that your auditors will always see the same material done because these are the easiest ways to get decent monologues.

They're usually overdone and very cliche. Which can be good for an audition, depending. But like in songs and stuff, every single auditor has probably heard "Grease Lightnin'", "Music of the Night", "Stars", or "Edelweiss" millions of times. Because those are the famous and cliche choices of song.

Same goes with monologues, every auditioner has heard something from Glass Menagerie, Death of a Salesman, Oedipus Rex, etc. millions of times.

It would behoove you to chose something from say an Off-Off-Broadway play or a less famous and well-known play.

For women's monologues, the best source for hilarious monoloues would be the show Anton in Show Business.

What I do is I look in a monologue book and find the perfect monologue for me, then I research that play and get the script. Then I'll take another monologue out from the script so there's an added feel of freshness to it.

Best of luck!

Write your own monologue.

The Public Library, is a great resource for monologues and anything related to the industry.

There are theater bookstores, in major cities, that have monologue books available for purchase.
