if you are a Christian do you even care about the flag burning?
Do you "pledge allegiance" to it?
Do you think it is more important or special than any other piece of material?
If you do why? its just a piece of cloth nothing more nothing less that's it.
I think if you pledge allegiance to it or if you think its special and more than cloth you are committing idolatry, you only pledge allegiance to God that's it. ( if your Christian ).
If you don't do these things and are Christian its good to hear!

A lot of people here don't seem to understand I aimed this question at Christians, if your not Christian don't complain but if you claim you are, think about what GOD would about about the pledge of allegiance or if we thought certain tangible things on this earth are sacred and more important than others. If you wonder where he stands on this read the ten commandments its right there.

Pledging allegiance to the "flag" does not mean pledging allegiance to a piece of cloth, it means pledging allegiance to the country. If a newscaster said "The White House said today ..." you would not think that some building column on 1600 Penn Ave opened up and started to speak. It's just a figure of speech.
Allegiance does not mean worship. If it did, then pledging allegiance to anything other than God would indeed be idolatry, but what it means is simply that you will support your country, which is a very biblical concept.

Definition of "allegiance" -
al·le·giance n. Loyalty or the obligation of loyalty, as to a nation, sovereign, or cause.
Pledging allegiance to the flag is more to express nationalism than an expression of worship. Saying the pledge to the flag is not a religious expression.
In fact, the pledge to the flag was changed, and the line - "under God" was added in the 1950's and the interpretation of reciting the pledge of allegiance was changed to have a Religious connotation. And I think that's the point you are trying to make with your question.
The flag is the symbol of American strength, history, culture and ideals. Singing the national anthem, or reciting the pledge to the flag is the exact same as displaying a flag on the 4th of July. It is a recitation of nationalistic pride in being an American.
You should learn something about American history, or don't they teach that subject in school anymore?
When someone burns the American flag it is an attack on American culture and history. The flag is a metaphor for our Nation when it is burned.

It is not entirely their fault. In most cases they don't even know that they are committing idolatry. The Trinity has been a part of Christianity for so long now that most Christians do not even doubt its reality. If we look at Christianity in the first century we would see that any mention of such a belief is vague and belonged to the minority. Today though due to centuries of theological mangling the Trinity is going strong as the majority belief. Anyone who truly studies the Old Testament (Tanakh) though would see that no where is a Trinity concept mentioned. Even when using the New Testament verses have to be spun out of context to fit such an obscure idea. Evangelism is an important part of the Christian faith. We feel it is our God given duty to spread the message. Some though I believe are spreading the wrong message.- God Bless! +?+

Actually.. no. You're not commiting idolatry because you're vowing to protect God's sacred land. America was founded based on people who were devout Christians and believed God sent them here. So, pledging allegiance is just saying you'll continue to work for what God desired.

if you are a Christian do you even care about the flag burning? I care very much about flag burning. I disagree with anything that destroys the symbol of the country for which we fought so hard. It is a symbol, not an idol, it is something that we use to show others who we are, it is NOT something that we worship. I worship GOD, but I use the American flag to show that I believe in the country that was founded originally on biblical principals. Everything we originally established in this country was based on biblical principals. All of our laws were, and some still are, based on biblical principals. There are countries out there who will kill you if you own a bible......I am proud and thankful to God that I was born and raised in America and the flag symbolizes that. We sing God Bless America, not America Blessed God, because in todays society we are spitting in his face with our complete lack of honor to the God who gave us this land to begin with. Our media focuses on insignificant and shallow thoughts that distract us from our true purpose, relationship with our creator. I sure hope this helps, God Bless. Diana

Are you serious? That's about the craziest thing I have ever heard. The Flag is a symbol of our country. We are not pledging to the material duh? Its the symbolism of pledging to love and honor our country. Of course I don't want to see the flag burning other than being retired properly. Its America. And you seem to have forgotten that in the pledge we say "one nation under God". Hello! I think you are seriously reaching here.

If they are worshiping the flag - then yes, it would be considered idolatry for that is what idolatry is, to worship something other than God.

They are doing that by worshiping Bush, and treating him as if he were "perfect", as in on the same level as their god.
