I tried to understand the logistics of this from the USPS website but I was confused. Can a first class stamp be used on any kind of normal size envelope? On the website it said something about a minimum size, which didn't make sense to me. How much faster is the mail delivered with a first class stamp? Are there any other restrictions on use that I should know about?
(i am trying to mail a letter to someone in Boot Camp and I know the regulations on mail are VERY specific)

1) A first class stamp can be used on any normal sized envelope
2) The item about the minimum size on the website was dealing with some foreign items and other novelty mailings that are so small they fall through the cracks of the machines and can easily be lost, not standard sized envelopes.
3) Mail sent by first class has an average delivery time of 2-3 days anywhere in the continental US. Tracking and delivery confirmation are also available for 50-60 cents extra
4) Mail sent to boot camps arrives fastest when it is properly addressed. Your friend/relative probably gave you the address. Copy it exactly!

You're letter will get there in less time than normally. You can use it on any standard size envelope, there is no minimum. You should be able to send your letter with no problem.

I would use a bubble pack envelope to send a letter because it takes 4-5 days to get to its destination. If you use a paper envelope it might take longer.

Honestly....you're probably better off going to the post office. I know, its a pain, but at least you'll know exactly which postage to use, as well as the exact price. Good Luck!
