A material can change from its solid to its gas phase directly (without a liquid phase) at any point below the triple point on its phase diagram. The process is indeed called sublimation.
The triple point of water is a little above 0 C, which means of course that snow on a very cold day can, and ideed does, sublime.

Sublimation. Dry ice is solid carbon dioxide. It sublimes. That's why it's called dry ice. There is no liquid state at our atmospheric pressure.
