18. The age of consent for sexual purposes is 16.

No. At 21 a person is considered an adult in every state. They are legally responsible for their own bills etc. It does not matter who she lives with, she is an adult and solely responsible.

Eiighteen

BUT Mississippi convicts 13 year olds for adult criimes and puts them in prison with adults!! Shame on Mississippi!!!

It is important to note that when juveniles are being sentenced in adult court it is because they have been legally converted into adults. Miller, although 14 years old, was given a life sentence for killing his 13 year old girlfriend. There are, nonetheless, certain principles that the court has mandated law enforcement follow when taking a confession from a juvenile.

The 13 year old in Dancer v. State received a life sentence for murder despite his declarations that police did not abide by the rules. Dancer used a unique argument in court against the police to clarify why his confession was not voluntary. The argument will be explained in greater detail later in the Waiver of Rights section. For now, the importance of Dancer is that the police questioned him over a few days and did not read the boy his Miranda rights until they had enough incriminating evidence against him.

Glad I am not a juvi in Mississippi.

Geez, in those states I thought kids were considered adults at about 10 (driving, drinking, smoking, etc). LOL

I believe that their is a Federal law which makes a child legal at the age of 18 - for everything but drinking, which remains 21.

18 legally but most consider you to be an adult at 21

It's 18 nationally.

Being tried in court as an adult, well, that's a different story - it's subjective to the state laws and prosecutor's discression.
