I have a list in a bookography I started a few months ago. In it I write book reviews of what I've read. I added a list of books I would like to own until I found a way to keep the list on Amazon.com. I've been building my "want" list there and whenever a special occasion comes around I remind my family and friends of it by giving them the link to my list. In that way they know exactly what I want. You have a way to revise the list so that you don't get something you already have.

Another neat thing I just found was Librarything.com, I catalog my books online with this site and if you want, you can share it with others on your site or blogs.
