Okay, going to add a bit more information here. Not just starting out. Been teaching lessons privately for 7 years now. Currently charging $12 for a 1/2 hour, but I feel that's low. Just don't want to lose students by jacking it too high.

not to discredit your degree, but there is a HUGE difference between having a degree in music and being able to TEACH. i myself used to be a piano teacher. However, b/c i did not have a degree in TEACHING, i purchased several books on how to teach and ask professions who travelled the world doing only this. I even taught how a chord was produced using physics - you know about the hertz and frequencies. I also think there are a lot of poeple out there who should NOT be teaching as they are not qualified.

Personally, unless you had a degree in MUSIC EDUCATION, i would not charge anything more than what you already are and would be happy that you have students at all at your age and your experience. However, if you have taken the time to lliterally earn HOW TO TEACH music, then i'd say you were still charing enough.

Also, to me teach music isn't about the MONEY - its about the PASSION of music. I have taught in areas where a very good number of the families didn't even have a PHONE b/c they were that poor. I hope you aren't teaching - bad word here, rephrase - charing for lessons just to get some extra cash from some poor parent who wants the best for their children! Hope that answers your question on what you should charge, if its enough, and if you should even be an instructor of such an amazing ability.

Just starting out? Then 10-15 bucks. That's what my nephew pays for guitar lessons.

If you have taught before you could charge $25/half hour, however, if you haven't, I would go for $15-20.
