Are they trying to get rid of the ice? If so, why do certain restaurants have more ice to get rid of? Why don't I see this in sushi restaurants, then? Or is there some other reason? Nothing comes to mind, and I have been curious for years. Anyway, if you know, I'd love to hear. Heck, even if you don't know but have a good (or humorous) explanation, that would be great, too.

I've seen it mostly in bars, not restaurants.

It seems to stop back-splashing pretty well. That's the only practical purpose I can think of.

Mostly, I think it is just for fun. So you can watch the ice melt with the hot stream. Like writing your name in the snow, guys get a juvenile thrill out of accomplishing something with their urine. I know I do.

It can't be to dispose of ice. There's easier ways to do that than to carry it into the boys' room.

I never knew why they did that, but I've noticed it at some bars. Personally, I just find it amusing to melt the ice with my pee.
