I like it very much. The acting was superb (especially Heath Ledger), as was the script. I thought it came across as very realistic, very believable. But then again, I'm one of those people who watches a lot of independent films and who tries to avoid the trash that the most of the public thinks is amusing. Not that I'm a snob or anything; I just don't have to be watching explosions and tons of eye candy every 10 seconds to be entertained. I'm not "bored" by movies that require me to use my brain a little.
I think the people who did not enjoy the film or refused to see it fall into one of three categories: (1) teenagers or young adults who didn't really know how to react to the social commentary, (2) homophobes, or (3) simple-minded people who can't be bothered to contemplate anything more profound than what Paris Hilton's wearing this season.

The question isn't nessecerely about who likes Brokeback Mountain, but moreso why we allow Hollywood and Mass media to control our pocketbooks. Someone close to me always said that some things are best left unspoken. Homosexuality has been taken suprizingly well by americans these days. The fact is that a class seperate from what is considered the norm has made this movie; in their mind, they are heroes for making such and action and anyone who doesn't believe they are heroes are labeled as predjudice biggots or stupid hicks/rednecks et cetera. Most people preach tolerance to all races and creeds; however, what they really saying is, "you have to accept my veiwpoint, if you do not want society to label you as an undesirable person and a possible threat to society." The point that I am trying to explain; however, is that no one person has the right to compromise your own beliefs for their own personal opinion. In america you must tolerate someone else's opinion, however you should not have to accept it as your own.
Yes brokeback mountain did have some theatrical qualities; however, it did was not enough to constitute the fact that it recieved several academy awards. It was not generally accepted as an exceptional movie by the general populous; it should not have gained the recognition it recieved.

I thought it was a great movie. I was kind of unsure about watching it because I was afraid that I could never look at Jake Gyllenhaal or Heath Ledger the same after that but I was totally wrong. It was so good I wound up buying it.

I enjoyed the movie but my boyfriend hated it for obvious reasons. They took on work that was very controversial and did it well. lol but Jake is a hottie to watch no matter what he plays in.

didn't see it because I didn't care for the write-ups. Everybody who saw it told me not to bother and save my money - that it was boring. I know it got lots of prizes, but I think it was mostly the movie 'theme' and daring to be different that they w/awarding. Can't comment on movie itself, because I did not see.

i never even watched it, and probably never will......i'm a southern girl, and one thing i have never seen is a gay cowboy, and i would like to keep it that way.........it's just one of those things.....i'm sure that somewhere gay cowboys exist, but i haven't met one......and i think that it might ruin that whole cowboy fantasy i have to see two of them kiss each other.......everyone made a big deal about it being so "ground breaking" but everyone i talked to that saw it said it was a stupid movie
