ya the rules of fifa have changed now
as the hosting nation opens the world cup
and first the rule was that the previous cup winner also gets a place in the world cup without playing qualifiers , now only the hosting nation gets the place without playing the qualifiers.

It used to be this way. Since the winner of the World Cup doesn't get an automatic berth for the next World Cup, only the host team does.

Was argentina the host country? Or better yet rules change as we go by. It's normally the host country and other team in their group that normally starts.

No, then Brazil would keep on opening the world cups LOL
and i think in 1990 it was just a coincidence, i think no matter who it is, it starts with Group A.

They were not the "host" country. The host country always plays first.

now they changed the rule. it doesnt matter who took the last cup. what it does matter is who ever host the games, that country will start the frist game.
