Looking for something in the Southeast, preferably (been looking into North Carolina specifically). To give an idea of historic charm, I currently live in Salem, MA and love everything but the weather and cost of living. Definitely NOT looking to move to California (too expensive). Otherwise open to suggestions. Thank you!

Austin, Texas is an oasis of liberalism in Texas.
Santa Fe, New Mexico is also an oasis of liberalism.
I love both of these towns.
Consider Sedona, Arizona. Very liberal...
These are both a little more expensive than where I live (oklahoma city) but not higher than Salem, MA.
I love the liberalism in MA but it is crowded and expensive.

Julian, CA. It is right outside of LA and San Diego, has really good apple pie and is very cute. I don't know if it is liberal or not but it probably is since most of California is liberal. The winters are cold but not FREEZING, and the springtime has legendary beauty. I have been there and it is adorable. It is not expensive either, because it is not very popular with tourists or rich people. The main reasons people go there is if they are passing through on their way to the big cities or want some amazing apple pie.

And I know you are not looking at California, but this place is really to die for.

San Francisco De Paula, is a cute little town just south of Havana, Cuba. It is tropical and the people are so friendly and it's very liberal, downright Communist. You'd love it there.

Austin TX.

Most other Southern states have red-state rural areas, red-state suburban areas, and an inner urban core that's black-and-blue.
