I was turned down for a job because of my age. This did not bother me that much because of my age(62). When I was employed I was a supervisor and did my own hiring. But I was honest. I told the people I interviewed what I expected. If you didnt qualifie I told you . Thats all I ask. Be honest

How can this NOT bother you...if age was the primary reason you were turned down? Im 59, just lost out on a great job for which I was incredibly qualified and I know darn well it was my age.....for the first time in my professional life, I have to face the age thing and it's not pretty. Im seriously considering looking into filing a complaint...but know that is a long and painful process....still corks me off tho!

Then you are a rare breed. HR and hiring managers today are never honest about anything. They'll tell you your great and we'll look forward to having you on board and so on. next day they won't even have the balls to return your call. You did a noble thing when you told people upfront if they were or weren't hired. today, people will tell you "we'll call you later" crap or "we're still looking" without having the common deceny to be honest. i guess they're scared of lawsuits or hurting someones feelings or something like that. better that then leading people on for weeks on end without a word right? really grinds my gears you know. Even if you far exceeded the experience of everyone who applied for the position, they'd still treat you like crap and lead you on just for the hell of it. As far as your age goes, most companies won't hire elderly people for various reasons like healthcare, being out of touch with younger staff, longevity at the company, things like that. Were you even 10 years younger then you would've gotten the job but most companies are looking for younger people to fill slots. that's why people like you are an urban myth in the hiring dept. Honesty is nonexistent in todays world. least of all in the presence of HR/managers.
