this is sort of a poll. i don't think that music should be blamed in the 80's a teenager shot himself in the head after listening to suicide solution by ozzy osbourne. the prosecutor said there was subliminal messaging saying get the gun shoot shoot. i have interpreted the song as having no subliminal messaging and that the song ddoes not condone suicide. its about the way suicide is not the answer and niether are drugs and alcohol. thats just an example though. how do you think music affects teens. and do you think society should blame music for suicides, shootings like at columbine, and other acts of violence. by the way with the columbine incident, marylin manson was one of the artists targeted by this. he was interviewed by micheal moore for the movie bowling for columbine and when asked what he would say to the two kids who committed the act if given the chance his reply was, "i wouldn't say a thing, i would listen." so let me know how you feel.

I'm a teen, and I don't think music affects a teen's mind. I listen to "depressing" music, and I am perfectly happy. It really depends on the person though. If the person listening to the music is already depressed, it could have some influence on them. I don't think it would be so influencing that one would kill themselves because of a song...

I don't think music has a thing to do with it. Personally, I have had thoughts.. things that people might have blamed on the music I listen to, but I honestly believe that these thoughts were more the results of life itself and the things happening around me than the music I was listening to.

Granted, when I am depressed I tend to listen to very depressing music, which does not HELP this feeling, so I can't say that it might not aid at all in pushing me over the edge one day.. but nothing has happened so far! lol

I think that music does have an effect on people but in no way could it be the only factor. A happy healthy teen listening to a song that says "kill yourself" is not going to go "oh, I never thought if it that way" and then shoot themselves. I think that music only helps galvanize the feelings that these troubled teens already have and offers them a view that perhaps suicide is an acceptable solution.

I think that parents need to be far more open to their children's feelings. This is what Moore was talking about, those kids were very troubled and they needed people to talk to. Keeping their feelings bottled up caused that explosion of violence.

Ozzy was singing about the dangers of drinking yourself to death and I noticed a vocal effect but he never said get the Gun.

While some Music can be a bad influence and stuff other factors must be considered in the blame game.

For instance Ozzy never tells anyone to commit suicide at all and the way he sees it if someone is stupid enough to do so then that's one less stupid person in the world.

Music is an emotion from the soul. To say that it has no affect on the soul is idiotic and turning the other cheek.

think this way, when you hear a certain song , you drive faster
when you hear a certain song you thinkof a certain someone
when you hear a certain song it sparks emotions that are deeply felt.

Music has an effect on everyone whether we choose to believe it or not. Look at the massive amounts of Ipods sold. Is this not a sign that music touches our souls?

So concerning suicide or depression, I can name many bands and artists that cater to this and make you feel the way they feel, this is why we listen to the music, to identify

I think that when a teenager commits suicide the parents want to blame someone or something. Music is easy. Most kids listen to music that their parents dislike. It's easy for the parents to take that one thing and put the blame there. It's much easier than facing the truth.

I thoroughly trust you. I am getting in poor health of listening to that track and films and stuff like which can be the purpose for a lot of these tragic matters that occur. I do not have an understanding of how anyone can consider that's it. My Chemical Romance is a well band and they aren't the purpose of this or in some other challenge. It is gloomy what occurred however MCR don't seem to be in charge nor some other band. I don't see how track can purpose this.

C'mon. You think all that is new news? Beethoven was ridiculed by his music and said that it compromised the ideas of the youth of that day. Mozart was considered mentally ill. Elvis couldn't be shown on TV from the waste down. 100 yrs form now society will laugh at Ozzy, Eminem, and Manson and blame youth's revolt or tragedy on someone else.

Wow. That's definetly a big deal nowadays, isn't it? I, personally love emo, metal, screamo, hardcore, punk...you name it, but I don't really feel you should go and shoot yourself if you hear something depressing. Some music genres are SUPPOSED to be depressing, so know what you're getting yourself into. Most of these suicidal kids are already depressed and just one step away from shooting themselves anyway. Its not the music's fault, seriously, nobody's gonna go shoot themselves in the head if they hear something on the radio! I say, if they're stupid enough to do that-let them.

Actual, music does have a big affect on teens.
I listen to a bunch of songs that talk about drugs and money, and suicide...and I'm a teen.
When my mood is crushed, I listen to some of these songs, and they sometimes get me to want to do what it's saying.

Some teenagers only do this though, because the artist is their hero. And they think, "Since he/she is doing it, we should too." I'm not saying it does it to everybody, but some teens it does.
