Depends on the person really. Though I think it's mainly to do with that old argument, "If there is a God why do so many bad things happen all the time?" Well that's simple because people make them happen, it's free will that causes all the problems, and it's also the reason why a higher power would never get involved. What's the point in giving a species free will and then jumping in when things get rough? Oh and another thing everybody seems to miss is the fact that we could all be living in Heaven right this very moment, it's just that people are to lazy to make it happen, here's an example. Everybody in Britain wakes up one morning and says to themselves, "I'm gonna give a days wages towards eradicating the third world debt". Now lets say the average wage in this country is £20,000, so that's about £55 a day, which equates to £2.75 billion, on a whim, imagine what we'd achieve if we put our minds to it.

It's hard to believe in God because there isn't any compelling evidence that he exists. I believe there is some sort of higher power that created life, since we are such complex beings. But the literal sense of God the way the Bible states it is just too far fetched to be believable. The Bible was written by many men in many different languages with many different interpretations. You can almost always find one thing in the Bible and then another thing to contradict what the first one said. I don't understand how anyone could take that seriously. It's also hard to understand how a God would allow so much undue suffering in this world. If he was real, I believe he would step in in some way. Why not? It's what a God should do. Also, if he really existed, why hasn't there been any other direct experiences since the Bible days? I think people need or want to believe in something to try to make sense out of things, but I don't believe it's real.

I don't think it's so much that they don't believe in a greater power, or God. There are very few athiests on a battlefield. I think it has more to do with a backlash against religion. All religions are man made. The more educated we become, the more we are taught to question things we read, be it history books or newspapers. So much bad has happened in the name of religion over the years. While we needed it many years ago, for whatever reason, it was just a stage in our development. We don't need autocratic religions any more. But that doesn't mean we don't need an idea of God in our hearts, or how to live decently. Most people do. But we are backing away from traditional religious dogma. Which I believe to be a good thing.

Maybe because they think if there was a God that there should be peace. Our Heavenly Father sent us here to grow and learn from hard times. If He did everything for us we wouldn't progress. The bad things that happen in this world like war, rape, hatred, etc is something that MAN creates and chooses to do, not God. We have agency to make choices and sometimes it hurts innocent people. All we can do is have faith that justice will be served in the end. It sounds hard to do, but that's for you to decide for yourself.
The hurricanes is nature. I don't know how to explain it, but I believe we're in the last days and these things are coming because Christ will be coming again soon. People choose not to believe because they follow the standards of the world and refuse to open their hearts. It's different for everyone so that is just my opinion.

I don't know, but in the bible it say in the end days many people will stop believing in him. I think people are just stubborn, and don't want to believe that God exist, so they make their own "gods" or some people even claim not to have a one.

Because they don't want to take any responsibilty for their actions. When we want to do something lousy...lie, cheat or steal...it's convenient to say there's no God, no higher moral authority. However when we need to blame someone for all the results of our lousy actions--innocent people suffering, etc. -- God becomes our scapegoat. "If God exists, why is there evil and suffering in the world?" Because God allows us to make our own choices--and we do--often at the expense of others.

Science provides answers that prove alot of things in the Bible to be inaccurate, so it's much easier to go against it now. I, being one of these people, also have another problem. I don't understand the whole concept of organized religion. They seem to go like fads. You don't see many people believing in the old Egyptian gods anymore, because it's faded away with time.

People have a hard time believing in God today because they spend more time study gravity, and other abstract stuff that you can't see, touch, hear, or smell.
