GET AN EXTERMINATOR!!! The termites that fly are a sign of an established colony. You won't have a deck or house left if you don't get rid of them by a professional. I had them 2 years ago that's why I know.

don't take a chance!!! trash the planter and check your deck! in one season, a good swarm of termites can eat an entire room of your home!! we had some that flew around a stack of firewood on our patio. kept putting off getting rid of them for about 2 months. when we did spray, we discovered that they had gone into the house! So, one new laundry room and $5000 later, I now know that if I had removed the pile of firewood when I first noticed them and then sprayed, I may have been able to save a lot of $$.

Follow Shiner's suggestion. The ones you see flying are not the problem, its the ones you can't see under the ground or in the wood of your house. Get an inspection; the inspector will know whether you have subterranean or dry-wood termites in the house, and if so, lhow much damage is already done.

By the way, i am having my house treated for subterranean termites tomorrow; I called for an inspection when i saw the flying ones around.

well, something that isnt effective, but FUN, is get a flyswatter that has an electric pulse. you push the button, swat them with the flyswatter, and ZAP. they dont get back up.
