The female should be removed ASAP after mating as the male might kill her and/or she'll sometimes eat the eggs. (Depends on the female and male in question.) The male is the one who stays until after the fry hatch to care for the eggs, and bubblenest. Please do a lot more read before breeding!!! See bettatalk for details, and betta porn.

The mother should of been taken out before the eggs even hatched, the dad takes care of them until they can swim on their own and then he should be removed. You have to separate the males once they are old enough to tell they are males so they don't start fighting. There's a lot to raising betta fry and you really should know all this before you even let the parents breed.

Betta breeding is a tedious process, there are many book available. The male is the one who should stay with the babies until they are free swimming and away from the bubble nest. Once the babies are free swimming, the male should be taken out and the female put in. Make sure the adults are well fed, because they will eat the young if they're hungry.

The male builds a bubblenest, then the pair will spawn. The male then spits the eggs into the bubbles. The female should be removed ASAP. I leave my male in for about a week after the eggs hatch. Once the fry are about 4-5 weeks old, I seperate the males into their own cups, keeping the females together.

If you separate the babies from each other--EACH one will have to be in separate containers or they will fight. Once you separate them, you cannot put them together again. If not separated they get along believe it or not
