It's great that you want to improve your time. First you should meet with your coach and make a realistic goal on how and what you want to do to improve your breastroke time. From there your coach can help you work on technique and help you train. You need to talk with your coach, otherwise he or she will not know your goal.

I'm a swim coach so I'll tell you what i know. Unlike freestyle and backstroke which need faster strokes to move you faster, the breaststroke requires more power. A stronger kick, bringing the heels all the way to the top of your thighs and then kicking out and in to COMPLETE streamline, will help a lot with moving forward. Make sure your hips set up to the surface (not all the way, but like push them back without pushing your butt out so that its ever so slightly) and that will help you go forward instead of going under water to make more effort of coming up for breath. When you are taking a breath, your head should not movie. keep it focused diagonally, not down because your arms are moving up/forward and if your head is moving down then you are making your head fight your hands for direction. Your arm strokes should be strong, using the full palm to pull water, your arms pulling in a circle motion that does not go farther than about a foot further from shoulderlength. Any bigger and you will be pulling unneccessary water. Do not Always return to streamline and stretch/reach hard for maximum pull coverage. The reach should not exceed one second if it is only a 50 meter length that you are working for. Always keep your fingers closed...any gaps and you can let go of water (every hundredth of a second counts). Hope this helps, Email me if you need visuals.

The previous answers, I think, are irrelavent because people are different and what might be an ingenious plan for one swimmer, may turn out to be a disaster for another. I think if you want to get faster in the 50 M Breastroke, you should consult your coach. Thats what coaches are for! To make you faster. I think that your coach knows you best and he will be able to help you the most.

Hi!! I a competitive swimmer for USA swimming, and there are a couple ways to do this! First of, make sure you have a fast tempo. Think of a song that you like that is quick paced, and sing it to yourself during your race. I promise that you will eventually get used to it, and start swimming to the tempo! Also, make sure you a have long glide/strech but still keep it fast! Working with cords will help you do this, because you have to use your strength to reach the other end of the pool! I hope these to things helped you out!

Time everything right, make yourself tight. You don't want any drag. Race as hard as you can, it's only a fifty. Two hand touch, make everything legal, and what helps me is having one of my friends cheer for me, ask one of your friends.
