Depends on what you consider bad. Compared to L.A. or Chicago it isn't too bad. At least it usually continues to move - albeit sometimes in the single digit speed range. You only have three really bad sections: (a) the area where I15 crosses, (b) the area where I125 merges, and (c) the area in El Cajon past 2nd Street where you lose the third lane. I'd avoid it between about 4 p.m. and 6 - 6:30 p.m.

I've been away from San Diego for a few years and I could only imagine that the traffic is worse now than it was then...tends to clear up around Alpine if I remember correctly

Very bad if you want to drive within San Diego County. If you see any trucks pulling trailer homes, beware and pass them up when it's safe. More than like they are headed to the dunes of Imperial County!

It is unbearable. I lived there all my life up until three years ago(I moved to Texas) and that is definatly the worst memorie I have of San Diego! Good Luck
