It's really funny to me, everywhere I look now there's all of these 18 year old kids(and younger) who think the 80's were so cool and love to reminisce about how great those times were. How do you even remember the 80's? I was born in 1980 and I barely remember the 80's and to me the 80's seemed just as cool as the 90's and the 2000's. The only difference between the 80's and the 90's is that everyone traded Flock of Seagulls for Pearl Jam and leg warmers for big, stupid looking hats. Everytime I go to NY now all I see are dudes with mullets, mustachesand sleeveless shirts and girls with spandex leggings, spandex skirts, and cowboy boots or high heels. And the music everyone thinks is so new and original these days is just new wave.....but not really new since it was new 20 years ago. I'm glad to see that they're bringing back all of the really bad trends. What a boring decade this is going to be, nothing but revamped styles that weren't that cool in the first place. Thumbs down 2000

Wow, I can't believe how terrible some of your answers are. One of you actually said that people had peace of mind in the eighties and it was less violent, are you retarded?!?! If I remember correctly there was the cold war and the threat of communism. Everyone thought that we were about to get caught up in WW3 with the Russians at any minute. There was a huge class seperation and NY was a dangerous place. Violent crime has gone down drematically since then. All the major cities have had extensive clean-ups, NY might as well be Disneyworld now.

I just recently had this discussion with a friend of mine who was born in 78. ( I was born in 81) Now in all honesty the only thing that we could come up with was that all of these people are basing their 1908's knowledge from 80's tv. Nick at Night or whatever. But I always knew that 80's tv was great but I never knew that people would bring back the style. It's atrocious. Besides Horror movies and some tv were the only great or even remotely things good from the 80's. It sure wasn't . But 90's tv was better..

They don't reminisce because they weren't there. In the 1980's there was a huge resurgence in the styles and music of the 1950's. In the 1990's the styles of the 60's and 70's came back. In the sixties the teens were were buying vintage clothing from the 1920's and 1930's. There are always those who will glamorize an era they had no part of; it's pure fantasy of a "simpler" time before they were born, and they have only their parents/grandparents stories and VH1 to draw from.

We've always been copycats - the phrase "There's nothing new under the sun" has been around for a long time ( I'm sorry I don't remember the source of the quote ). In 20 years young people will be looking at THIS decade with nostalgia. Scary, huh?

I lived the 1980's, and I had a blast in Austin, Texas. My clothes and hair were cool, if a little high-maintainance.

I think a big part of it is most people just dig the style.:/ I mean I know a ton of girls that wore the peasant skirts...and then started wearing the peasant skirts as a dress with a huge belt with it...that was big in the 70s. A ton of these kids PRETEND that they know about the 80s.And then when they see I love the 80s they freak out and try to make conversation on that. I was born in 85 but I guess I have a pretty good memory and can think of a few key things. But, I don't claim to remember it all. Just everything cycles back around.

Seems that always happens, in the 70s we had 50s day at high school, I guess they had 60s days in the 80s and I remember people going 70s in the 90s. But yeah, it is amazing that music has changed so little in the last 40 years. One thing about the 80s, there nearly was a music revolution that would have finally moved us into a post-rock era, but MTV quashed that by inexplicably dropping new music for metal in the 80s. The malaise still continues....

Yah, I don't particularly care for the 80s either. I think more happened in the 60s. All the rap and pop of this decade sux, so lots of people just want to listen to something different. Like Pink Floyd or Hendrix ;-)

Well I don't know about New York but its not likle that in Miami. People would probably get laughed at down here for for dressing like that now. I was born in 82 so I don't remember much except for the music in the late 80's.

I have no idea. Actually I don't think anyone I know or anyone at my school is even the slightest bit interested in the 80's. Sorry, but if I were to become excited about the 80's I would think of you because I TUST you!

Early 80's punk scene was pretty cool. I was in my early 20's then and I loved going to see the Clash, the Dead Kennedys, etc. But then the decade became all about greed and wretched excess.

because the times were fun loving, and much better than now.

yes, the trends and styles were...well lets not speak of them again, but the overall peace of mind we had, and the ability to TALK to a stranger, without fear of being shot or stabbed,

everyone nowerdays is uptight, and ready to kill. they jump to conclusions, and always the wrong ones, they are WAY to hostile, and have no trust in their fellow man.

everyone is guilty until proven innocent these days, every man is a rapist or a thief, every woman is a whore or a gold digger, every teen is a vandal or drug addict, until they give you reason to believe otherwise.

we are corrupted by out TV, and our news media
