My football coach is forcing all the players on my team to eat a diet consisting of only whole grain breads, fruits, and vegetables and occasionally meat. We are already one of the smallest teams in the league. Is my coach crazy enough to make us lose weight when we need to gain some?

He isn't insane, he just wants to win. I disagree with the meat on occasion though. Diets that consist of fish are high in protein and Omega fatty acids - good fat. I think he may be thinking that since your team is small to be the best conditioned and fastest team in the league, which this diet will produce. I think a diet with more salmon and tuna in it would do wonders for the team. Also, I would suggest taking a supplement like Whey Protein if you dont already, available at any GNC store.

I'd take a fit team that can move to the ball well over a fat slow team any day of the week. The only place you need some weight is the O line, and in the HS game you can do more with athletice lineman running traps and pulling.

That is a healthy diet. He is not probably trying to make you lose weight, but get fit and healthy. It is good for your muscles, reflexes, nerves and everything else you need to be a good athlete. He probably thinks you eat too much junk food like milkshakes, hamburgers & fast food tacos. Too many hot pockets & stuff that isn't good for you. Get lots of nutrition with your calories. I'm on his side.

Its a generalized diet. each person needs something different and your coach is putting everyone in the same catagory. my coach did that all the time when it came to weights, etc. i would say to use the diet if it works for you, but if not find something that does.

If it is about making you lose weight, remember SPEED KILLS! You will be small, but you will be greasy fast! Besides, the weight training will keep you bulked up pretty good. If you guys execute your gameplan well, you'll be tough to beat regardless of size.
