The unknown is a frightening thought. However I am not afraid of death. I am excited to see what is next, presumably heaven. What I am afraid of is how I'll die...I don't want it to hurt!
I did hospice care for about 14 years before I switched careers. Most of my patients who had lived long healthy satisfying lives were very calm and excited about going to heaven. They were very serene and were so very ready to go. Then there were a few who even though they were in their nineties were so frightened. One sat up and grabbed my arm with amazing strength and just looked in my eyes, so, so scared. Few people at that age had real fear. The younger ones, who were terminal, became serene, for the most part, at the end also. From 4-44, most of them made peace with death and they were ready. Don't know why I added this. I guess I thought it was relevant to the question.

I am not afraid of the unknown but I'm not excited either. I don't know what is going to happen, hence the unknown. I'm not afraid of dying but I am scared and sad to be leaving because of my family, especially my kids. I know that they and the rest of my family will go on, its just that I will miss them and don't want to leave. No matter what age I am.

The unknown is always scary. You were able to be here for at least 100 years, knowing that you have lived, loved, fought and endured, so when it's time, perhaps what comes next is comforting.

If I were 100 and all of my parts were well working I dont know how I would react. However, if I were broken down I would be ready to die and I would not be scared because I am a Christian

If I live to be 100 years old then I wouldn't have a care in the world, my kids will already have kids and my life will be at its end, just accept it and because either way your going to die, that's how I see it.

I can't tell how I will feel when I am one hundred years old. I think we all have a fear of the unknown but who knows if when the time comes we won't just be ready.

A lot depends on how your life has been lived. If well, I think that one is less likely to be petrified by fear. As Dumbledore said to young Harry, to the well organized mind, death is just the next great adventure.
