you almost don't.
it's very easy: just plug it in and the operating system will sense the new hardware and start the wizzard; just be prepared with it's driver disc and with your Window$ CD. the installation will go on automaticaly.
you'll have then to set up a dial up link, just use the internet connection wizzard.
All right, you're done!

If you use Windows XP, do following steps :
1. Plug in your modem to PC in COM or Serial Port
2. Conect phone line to your modem.
3. Set up driver for modem :
Start menu --> Control Panel --> Phone and modem oftions--> Modems tab --> Add... click Next button and do with the intructions

what sort of modem, eg dialup, adsl, dsl etc???
i would advise reading the manual, or speak to the isp, or plug in the card or usb or enet conneciton put in the install cd and follow the cd guide.
