Have they ever asked you how you came to the US or if you live in trees or if you have cars or if it's true that we eat people and drink blood? My favorite is when a SOUTHERNER tell me that I have A FUNNY ACCENT. Now that is hilarious coming from someone who can't make a basic grammatically correct sentence! You learn to take it in stride and have fun at their expense along the way. My favorite way of making them look stupid is when someone asks me how I came to the US. Some people actually believe that we swam the Atlantic to get here. If someone is annoying the heck out of you, drop the hint that you eat other people. They'd leave you ALONE FOREVER.One of my younger brother's friiends was banned from coming to our house because we ate people.HOW THEY REACH THESE ABSURD CONCLUSIONS BAFFLE ME AND I'm called barbaric and stupid?

I've always tried to educate others about South Africa. And I have lots of friends from America, Canada, Japan and Korea. All of them just know what they've seen on TV and that's nature programs on SA.
I suggest you go along with the stories. It makes good conversation. I can talk about my pet lions and elephants for hours. It makes 'em shut up about their boring countries.

Coz they seem to think that Africa is undeveloped, but at least Africans aren't arrogant. They never seem to look at other countries (especially in Africa) other than their own. Believe it or not, here where I am in Australia the people in my school haven't even heard of a place called South Africa! That's really sad.

The same reason the general public believes everything the believe in America - the media.
People don't bother to think for themselves or find out if the things being said are true, they just listen to whatever the "idiot box" says and believe it 100%. Since they don't see much from Africa except jungles and animals, that's what they believe to be true.

It's a combination of ignorance and lack of knowlegde. However, it is very true that the media has a big negetive impact on this issue. It mentions only two things to the rest of the world about Africa: wildlife and porverty.

That is what they see on television. It's about the only information on Africa that is seen. Now where did you say you kept your pet lion? I want to stay away from it.

it doesnt??? wow that's news to me...lol. no j/k because some people are dumb, uncultured, only care about the U.S. and they think that everywhere else is a third world country. plus the movies portray it that way like even on tomb raider in the scene when shes in africa it's like that. people are just dumb that way.
