No, it's not unusual not to see a heartbeat. The earliest a heartbeat can be seen on an ultrasound is after six weeks of pregnancy, when the embryo has been developing for four weeks. If you're counting on the usual scale, your baby is a couple of days shy of that mark still. You can hear the heartbeat with a doppler ultrasound (pressed to the abdomen) between ten and thirteen weeks, depending on the baby's position. Good luck! :)

The heart starts beating right away...at 5 weeks..you should be able to see the heartbeat...I lost my first baby (no heartbeat in the sac.) FOr my second baby, I went for an ultrasound at 5 weeks..and you could see the sac and heartbeat by vaginal ultrasound. You may want to request another one

i first heard my babies heartbeat at 6 weeks through a vaginal ultrasound. If the doctor said everything looks fine so far it is a good sign. just schedule another appointment for your 8 weeks, hopefully you will hear the heartbeat by then and see a tiny shape with limbs starting to form, it is the cutest thing! congratulations on your pregnancy and best of luck.

The heartbeat can usually be detected with a u/s at around 6 to 6.5 weeks. So if you had one at 5 weeks, go back the following week and the u/s tech should be able to see a heartbeat.

Generally, when we say 5 weeks, the egg was actually fertilised 3 weeks ago. At this stage, it is normal for see a small gestational sac but the embryo is usually not visible.

The embryo with a heart beat will usually become visible after another week or so.

Absolutely not..... the earliest that a sonogram can detect a heart beat is 6 wks. and that is the earliest. Now keep in mind, a heart beat cannot be detected by doppler until 8-12 weeks so don't worry I would not think twice about it.

I was admitted into the hospital at 6wks 2days and that was the first time I saw my babies little heart beat, but I didn't hear it until 9wks.

Good luck!

it's not unusual to not see it. keep in mind your conception date is rarely what you think it is anyway. I saw my heartbeat as early as 6-8 weeks (i still insist i was 6 weeks since i knew when i was ovulating) on a vaginal ultrasound. what most doctors will do is have you come back in a week or two to look again.

I don't think its unusual. I don't think we heard the heartbeat with my pregnancy until around week 7. What did the doctor say during the ultrasound? Seeing the nice round egg sack is important, so it sounds positive!

No, it is not unusual. A baby does not have a beating heart at that early age. A heartbeat is detected at 10 weeks the earliest.(according to the books) If your doc was concerned about not seeing a hearbeat he/she needs to go back to school!
