I'd suggest you use a credit card or prepaid gift card for any online purchase, considering the dreadful fact that debit card thefts fancy it these days. You can never be too careful!
I myself fell victim once by using my debit card for lots of online purchases. Fortunately I quickly found out about a fraudulent transaction and had it resolved and credited back into my account, thanks to the zero liability. I then had my debit card cancelled and replaced with a new one with different number combination. Apparently someone unbeknownst to me out there used my debit card to make a purchase I was not aware of, not to mention my debit card was with me the whole time! Ever since the incident, I've never used my debit card for purchases again. I've learned my lesson well.
The reason being that using a credit card is much safer, because it is not related to your bank checking account. It acts like a loan to you, and you're required to pay it back later. You will be safe knowing that your debit account info is not exposed to third-party businesses anywhere. Debit card, on the other hand, directly subtracts your money from your account once a purchase is deemed complete. Your debit card number and your info will most likely be stored at online merchants' expense for an indefinite period of time. I'm not sure about you, but having somebody store your debit account info is not going to make me a happy camper.
Finally the best choice for online purchase is using a prepaid gift card. It's the safest of all. You make miscellaneous online purchases until the fund runs out. It is then rendered useless and disposable. You will have nothing to worry about by using a gift card.
If you can, and are savvy about your money, get a credit card or gift card for online purchase. It's a wise choice!

Yes, debit cards and debit cards can both be used in online ordering. A debit card will take the money right out of you checking account. You will not receive a bill. A credit card will bill you later for the purchase and allows you to pay it off (with interest) over a longer period of time. As long as you have enough money for the purchase in you checking account, it is a great way to make online purchases.

I use my debit card all the time online. As long as you have the little visa or mastercard logo on it, you can use it just like a credit card.
The advantage of using a debit card over a credit card is that you are forced to live within your means and you don't run up a bunch of debt on impulse shopping that you could be stuck with for years to come.

A credit card sets a limit on the amount of credit you have on the account. A debit card is limited to what you have IN the account (they only allow you to spend what you have).
It's a personal preference, but credit cards can be frightening when you have too many and spend too much!
As long as a debit card has a VISA or Mastercard logo, you can use it on the net for purchases.

Yes, you can use a debit card for online purchase. I do it all the time. The difference between a debit card and credit card is that if you use debit card, the money is deducted from your account right away; but for credit card purchase, you pay against your monthly statement.

you should be able to use your debit card for online purchases as long as it has a credit card logo on it,(such as Visa or MasterCard). The advantages/disadvantages are a debit takes money out of your account immediately so you don't pay for interest, a credit card allows you to wait until your bill comes in to pay the amount. If you don't pay the credit card bill in full you may be liable for interest on the balance.

Of course, I do it all the time. If you debit card has a Visa or Mastercard logo on it (the two most popular), it can and will be accepted anywhere a visa or mastercard credit card is accepted - even online. I purchase a lot of stuff online with my card.

You say you found out it was a "bad company" within a few minutes of placing the order? What does bad company really mean? It sounds like you didn't give them a chance to even send your shoes. On the other hand I wouldn't use your debit card online either. Use a prepaid visa/mastercard or a credit card. Actually I did have my debit number stolen from me and I had only used it locally. I believe it was stolen where I stopped in and had my nails done, and it was sold or whatever and used in Tennessee. I am thousands of miles from Tennessee. Luckily my bank called within minutes and we were able to get it all straightened out pretty fast.

If your debit card has a visa/mastercard logo on it and the security code on the back (there should be a group of numbers printed on the line where you sign your name), then just about any online store will accept it, I use mine for all my online shopping. Hope that helped!
