How hungry was the guy who discovered sweet breads, escargot, or truffles?

Nah, you'd just have to have made it/discovered it. Like escargot. If I was the first person to throw a snail in boiling water (or however it's made) I would not be the first to eat it. It looks disgusting. I'd probably pawn the taste-testing off on someone else, but I could still claim the rights to my creation.

Cheese was referenced as a food 4000 years ago in Egypt, I think. Back then, they ate practically anything.

How would you like to be the guy who discovered poison ivy didn't make a good salad?

Maybe, but I'll get somebody else to try it at the same time I'm tasting it.

Are you kidding, I would have my husband try it first. Then a trusting neighbor, if they both survived then I would try it.
