I'm young and it does upset me that the majority of people my age are lazy asses, I now have to work even harder to convince people like you that I have a great work ethic!!

I don't know if when you say 'young employees today', you mean those of my age, I'm 27. Either way, I actually do have to agree with you. When I lived in Cali. it was very obvious. I now live in the South East part of the country and it's not as 'accepted' to be lazy, but some of my fellow workers do lag quite a bit, but I feel that's more to do with drugs around here than with 'being cool' like it was in L.A.
Our country has not only have to compete on the world stage for technology and education, but work ethics and determination. It really is a serious problem. Thank Tupac, MTV, and the liberal media for this.

It is societal evolution.
It is our belief that our children should not have it as difficult as we did. So therefore we try to limit and ease their struggles, but reality should tell us that it is struggle which builds character.
Another issue concerning taking responsibilty. In our society today too many people try to make excuses for behavoir rather than holding to the truth that actions have consequences. We are all responsible for our actions, and should be held accountable as such. This builds integrity.
Lastly there is this idea that we are too good for some types of labor. So they have never known the joy of a good hard day's work.
Having said this I must also say that I know many young people who are very devoted hard-working individuals.

I think the wrong kidds were hired. I know of at least 6 kids between 18 and 21 that are extrememly hardworkers. Converserly, I know some kids that are the worse.
I will say the samething about older workers.

It starts with our extremely bad public education system. That is exaserbated by bad parenting. And the topper is the new "liberal" societal rules that encourage people to do whatever they want, and not do whatever they don't want, and that you never have to take responsibility for your own life or your actions (or inactions).
When you combine all that, you get people who are unwilling to work to obtain what they want because they believe they are already entitled to whatever it is they want.
If nothing else, ignorance is ruining this country. There are people who believe they have a Constitutional right to drive a car. How far and hard our education system has fallen.

Things are given to kids without having to work for it. Parents do not teach or ask for respect they just want to "be friends" and our public schools are just struggling to keep the kids safe and "managed" while they allow 12th graders to graduate without even passing an 8th grade test (they don't want to hurt their feelings...)!! We have taken God out of everything, what is left? Kids that do not have respect for anything, feel they deserve everything and have no pride in good old hard work.
The good kids are out there just keep looking and don't accept any person that "looks good" it's what is in the heart that counts.
Raise your standards the youth will follow- eventually!! ;)

SOME young people are lazy. I always hope I don't get one of them to serve me when I walk into a business. If I do get one who is miserable and incapable of handling the job, I take the time to talk to the manager and let him/her know. If one performs duties adequately, I thank them. If one performs above and beyond the call of duty, I thank them and take the time to let the manager know. Perhaps it comes down to what "we" are willing to accept. If a business is not consumer friendly - if the employees do not do their job - don't do business with them.

I agree with you 100%. The rude and obnoxious attitude of young people today drives me crazy. And I'm only 30 myself. I love waiting in a FAST FOOD line and having to wait 20 minutes. It's called FAST food people! Move those legs and make it snappy! :)

young employees usually have little to no bills to pay so they don't really care, its no big deal to them, but i also think just as many 35 yr old employees are just as bad as young employees.i don't think age is the issue, people in general.
